Program Overview
The Hairdressing & Barbering program is designed for learners who want to gain practical, creative, and professional grooming skills for salon, barbershop, and beauty service environments. It introduces learners to hair care, cutting, styling, shaving, braiding, scalp care, hygiene, client handling, and basic beauty business practice.
The learning experience combines guided instruction with hands-on practice so that learners build confidence through real application. Week One: Common Foundation for All Learners
Before learners specialize in Hairdressing & Barbering, they begin with a shared first-week foundation that is common across departments. This helps every learner build confidence, identity, communication ability, innovation mindset, environmental awareness, and practical readiness for growth across technical, entrepreneurial, and future-focused learning pathways.
This shared foundation ensures that learners develop not only technical interest, but also self-awareness, communication ability, sustainability awareness, and a wider understanding of how innovation, technology, and personal growth can be used responsibly and confidently.
Training Modules
The program is delivered through practical modules that introduce learners to personal grooming, hair care, barbering practice, styling techniques, hygiene, client handling, and basic beauty enterprise application.
1. Hair & Scalp Care Basics
Introduction to healthy hair, scalp hygiene, product use, washing, conditioning, and routine care for different hair types.
2. Hair Cutting Fundamentals
Learners explore basic cutting techniques, sectioning, trimming, shape control, and safe handling of combs, scissors, and clippers.
3. Blow Drying & Styling Practice
Use of hair blowers, brushes, combing methods, setting techniques, and simple styling for neat, professional presentation.
4. Braiding, Plaiting & Natural Styling
Foundational braiding, line control, neat parting, plaiting techniques, and styling approaches for natural and protective looks.
5. Barbering & Grooming Skills
Introduction to clipper work, hairline shaping, beard trimming, shaving basics, fading awareness, and professional male grooming standards.
6. Salon Hygiene & Tool Care
Cleanliness standards, disinfection, towel handling, workstation organisation, tool maintenance, and safe salon or barbershop practice.
7. Client Consultation & Professional Conduct
Listening to client needs, recommending styles, building confidence, communication etiquette, time management, and customer care.
8. Beauty Enterprise & Career Readiness
Basic pricing, service presentation, branding, beauty business thinking, workstation discipline, and preparation for work or self-employment.
Entry Requirements
Open to motivated learners with interest in grooming, beauty practice, barbering, hair care, and personal enterprise. Prior experience is not required. Commitment, cleanliness, discipline, creativity, and willingness to learn through practical work are important.
Duration
The program runs over a structured training period with guided salon and barbering practice, demonstrations, styling sessions, and applied practical work. Duration can be aligned with your current departmental schedule and cohort calendar.
Certification
Learners who successfully complete the training and required practical work receive institutional recognition or certification based on program completion, attendance, participation, and demonstrated skill growth.
